I do understand the desire to encourage people to buy the bigger books from a company perspective. It gives the company less books it has to stock. However, if you go to a publisher for the big books, and a print on demand publisher for the small ones.... you'll never have a stock of the small books just hanging around waiting for you to find out if they are popular enough to do a print run of them.
I wouldn't charge different prices for the same information in a different format (unless that format is significantly different - like a CD or E-book.) It does not seem fair to make money a reason why people buy books in one format or another. If the book is good, it'll sell regardless of how it's packaged.

most poeple arent as idealistic as that.. they want to make money.. thats why they started the company ultimately.
