armor is of course very important to the game... now what to do with armor... do you use it for damage reduction? do you use it for armor rating like in rifts, do you use armor points, does it make you harder to hit... what are the draw backs of armor? weight, encumbrance.. heat exhaustion in a warm climate... interesting stuff.

A little bit of everything. Much of the effects of armour are common sense, but when it comes to translating it to dots it becomes a little more difficult. As I see it, wearing armour does not make you any more difficult to hit. If anything, as most kinds of armour are restrictive in some way then you would be easier to hit but less likely by however many points your armour covers to take damage.

and again we are working on a system of Stamina, the ability to carry on acting with major exertion, based on the sum of your characters tenacity and phisical constitution

I might be taking your mention of "character tenacity" the wrong way... but one of the things i was toying with is a character nature stat representing the characters tendency in battle to represent thier fighting spirit... but not something so ...unexpressive as "willpower".

Ok.... we're looking for what people think of the currently existing systems rather than discuss the game we are in the process of creating.

I agree that armour should be used only for damage reduction, stats like agility and stamina affect more about how hard you are to hit along with specific skills like a dodge skill and so on. I feel at the moment stamina, strength and agility should be used in a combined combat modifier. as all these affect how well someone will move in combat. This then along with specific skills modifying, depending on the situation as well, will be the used along with a dice roll of some sort against the combat skill of the attacker along with his special skills and dice roll.
Only if the hit is made is the actual stat of the armour taken to reduce the damage rolled along with any modifiers for skills with the armour (able to turn the armour in a certain way to reduce the damage, or make it only skid across and not damage at all for instance).

that sort of begs the question is it a soak roll like in WoD or do you deduct a hard number from the damage dice roll.

Have you seen any system that does armour particularly well, or poorly?

D&D's system of making you harder to hit, but doing the same damage was silly, I mean I can understand that stiff metal armour is impossible to pierce with normal swords, and that the only way to do damage is to hit unprotected areas, but This doesnt work the same with leather or if you are using an arrow
